School Principal Wants Parents to Ban Facebook ~ Chris Pirillo.
As with more and more issues as I grow older, I am of two minds on this one. On the one hand, Facebook and other social networking sites can amplify the bad choices and immature decision making of younger users. On the other hand, they can be valuable tools to teach kids socialization skills; skills that I lacked when I was young. There are many hard lessons to learn in a normal life; the proper use of Facebook or other social Internet tools is one that it is the responsibility of parents to teach. Teach, learn, know, understand. Parents, teach yourselves. Teachers, stay in the classroom and out of the home, unless there is a safety or life threatening problem. Also, as with most modern problems, the fault, Dear Brutus, is not in the Internet, but lies in ourselves. (Apologies to the man from Stratford-on-Avon).
