Sync Me - Please

Synchronization the Killer Feature for Cloud-based Practice/Project Management Apps? - Legal Project Management. Like others, I am increasingly moving my practice to the cloud. I do a lot there, with Google Calendar, and GMail, and other Google apps. I would love to use a decent case management system in conjunction with Google; but, as of yet, nobody has automatic syncing as you go with Google. I don't know why that is; but, I will muddle along until they do. I used Amicus Attorney Client Server for many years; but, the hassle of keeping it up to date with my smart phones and my notebook computer got to be too much. Clio, Rocketmatter, Amicus, and all the others; here is a challenge for you. The first one to sync in real time with my Google apps gets my vote.

I might even wear glasses with a computer built in so that I could access data during hearings and trials. I draw the line, however, at putting a computer chip in my underpants. Size Matters - Yes, It Does

Droid X poses with the EVO 4G, crowned the new size king %u2013 Android and Me.  Not to be outdone by HTC and Sprint, Motorola and Verizon are coming out next month with the Droid X, which is a big, honking Android phone. It isn't as wide as the Evo (which is a good thing, because you can hold it in one hand), but it is longer, and has a huge screen. Size of a smart phone is a very personal thing. However, if you have self esteem issues, and you own a Hummer, then this is the phone for you.

Android 2.2 upgrade list: Is your phone getting Froyo? - Computerworld Blogs.  Froyo, the next interation of Android, also known as Version 2.2, will allow Android phones to be used as free wifi hotspots for up to 8 users. It will be much faster than even Version 2.1. It will allow apps to be placed on the SD card, which makes the number of apps allowable unlimited, and my 16 GB card will fill up fast. It will have Flash 10.1, which will allow viewing of Hulu, and many other videos online. (By the way, Apple's iPhone can't, or won't, allow any of this, even the new one). The Droid will be updated in June, which makes me happy that I kept it (although, with over a year on my agreement, I didn't have much choice if I wanted the Incredible). The Incredible is scheduled for the upgrade in the second half of this year, a product of the Sense UI interface on the HTC phone. Hey, if you don't want or need any of these features, buy an iPhone. However, I really like being able to pop the back off of these Android phones, and put in a spare battery if I want, and to add SD cards with up to 32 GB of expandable memory.

Google Doesn't Believe Wi-Fi Data Collection Broke U.S. Law - WSJ.com. If Google took data from WiFi hotspots while it was rolling around the streets of Florida, I don't know how it can argue that it wasn't in violation of Florida statutes prohibiting such activity. I love Google. Google is a friend of mine. I use Google Calendar, Gmail, iGoogle, and various other Google products. However, I am really concerned about the security of my personal data, and I don't want a repeat of the Facebook scuffle occurring on my local computers. How about you?

Open Internet advocates and lawyers and courts have long proposed that law belongs to the people and that the Internet is in the public domain. The marriage of primary law and the Internet will give all persons access to the law that governs them. This is the highest and best use of the Internet.

Is Windows XP Finally Dead?

Reminder: Windows XP to be discontinued for netbooks on October 22.  The OS that wouldn't die, and is probably still used on millions of computers, and that found new life with the netbook market, is now scheduled to die on October 22. Windows XP has had more reprieves than an inmate on death row. Stubbornly clinging to life, XP has been hanging on for 5 years after it was originally scheduled to expire. Of course, some of the blame lays at the feet of Microsoft, for botching the release of Windows Vista. However, the stability and success of Windows 7, and the fact that 7 runs just fine on netbooks, means that XP is on the way out, finally. Goodbye, old friend. You will be missed.

HP Compaq Presario CQ61-420us 15.6'' Notebook, AMD Athlon II Dual Core M320 (2.1GHz), 3GB Memory, 250GB HDD, Windows 7 Home Premium (Black/Silver) - WA976UA#ABA - Buy.com.  This 15.6 inch HP notebook computer has an AMD Dual Core processor, 3 GB of memory, a 250 GB Hard Drive and Windows 7. It costs less than $400. If you are spending more than that, you are throwing your money away. No lawyer needs more power than today's budget laptops provide. I am Exhibit A. Yes, I buy more than one piece of tech for most things. But, I write about it every day. Every lawyer needs to carry a notebook computer around; at least, back and forth between home and office. You communicate via email, browse the web, do legal research online, create documents and pleadings, bill clients, and so forth. You really don't need to spend more than $400 to do it. I use an Acer Aspire 4810, which is a 14 inch notebook. I got it for $379, and bought it because it was on sale, and is thin and light. If it crashes, I can pull the hard drive, and buy another one. By the time I get to the $1,000 to $1,500 many people spend on computers, I will have cycled through 3 or 4 computers. Frugal is good.
