5 Reasons Starbucks Is Making Wi-Fi Free - Mobile - IT Channel News . The news is out. Starbucks is offering free wifi at its stores starting July 1st. There is great pressure on retailers to give more value for the dollar, and Starbucks is not immune. Although there is a Starbucks 3 blocks from my house, I have a confession to make. I never liked it much. Overpriced coffee in a snooty environment. Not my cup of tea. I prefer carrying my own Internet anyway. More secure. And, I am much more comfortable in my den at home.
