Today I received another email from someone in another country promising me untold riches if I will help the person, with an official sounding office, collect some unclaimed funds. I have posted before about the ways to spot someone "phishing" for personal information in order to steal from you, or touting products of questionable value. However, the title of this one caught my eye. It said: "A Very Legitimate Proposal". In my youth, my mom taught me to be suspicious of people who touted their honesty or their virtue in a very public way. So, if someone feels it is necessary to tout their proposal as "legitimate", my first inclination is to question its legitimacy. This one, however, was "very" legitimate. Whenever you see someone trying this hard to convince you that they are on the up and up, it is a pretty good indicator that you are looking at spam. Additionally, be alert for spelling and grammatical errors. The diction that sounds like someone for whom English is a second language should be a red flag. Be careful out there.
