Google Desktop - Search Everywhere

Google Desktop Download. One of the things I love about Google TV is that you can search for anything, and it finds it somewhere. The Kevin Bacon commercial highlights this ability. Google Desktop brings this same functionality to the computer desktop. Just start typing, and it will find anything on your computer, on the web, on TV, wherever. I prefer it to the Windows 7 built-in search. I don't much like the on screen gadgets pictured here, and turned off that feature. If you like gadgets, though, you can put them on your desktop for instant access. It even will push items to you on pop up screens; although, I don't like the interruptions, so I turned that off as well. In any event, if you want the power of Google search brought to the desktop, this is for you. There are versions for all three major operating systems: Linux, Mac OS, and Windows.

Christmas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. I don't know when it became unacceptable to wish for peace and love and a Merry Christmas. However, if Christmas offends you, you are at the wrong site. If you don't want to receive my Christmas wish of happiness and love for you and yours, you are free to pursue those virtues elsewhere. For me and mine, this season is for family, and trees, and gifts, and a special birthday.

At a time of the year when every girl and boy is dreaming of sugar plums and gifts, it is nice to see that the ugly Christmas sweater never goes out of style. It just gets a modern upgrade. If you get a sweater uglier than this one, send in a photo. I plan to start a collection. By the way, how this guy ever got on an airplane in this day and age is beyond me.

For These Young Nuns, Habits Are The New Radical : NPR. I grew up with nuns. I had a love-hate relationship with a few of them. They could be nice, or they could dish out discipline that was like Armageddon. However, the symbols are what I remember; the habits, and the focus, and the single-minded devotion to an ideal that escapes most of us. They were a shining example of a life that was to be aspired to. Even more than the priests, who always seemed distant, they took joy in teaching children how to become responsible adults. When they began to lose the habits, the symbolism faded away, in a vain attempt to become more one with the society they served. In fact, without the symbol of the habit, they merged into the populace. The move back to the habit, it seems to me, is a healthy acknowledgement that there are benefits to being of the people, yet apart from them. 

All I Want For Christmas Is A Geeky Gift

Inspiron%u2122 duo | Dell. Okay, number one on the Geek gift list this year is the Dell Inspiron Duo tablet hybrid computer. With the best of both worlds, you get a tablet running touchscreen Windows 7, and which converts to a regular netbook for industrial  strength document production. Second has to be Google TV in any incarnation. I like the Logitech Revue, even though it has not been adopted as rapidly as Google would like. Third has to be any Android phone; my preference is the Droid X. Since I already have the Revue and a Droid X, it goes without saying that She Who Must Be Obeyed, and they who obey (other than me), now know what to get me. Of course, it is much better to give than to receive. NOT.

In case you aren't familiar with the wonderful law based cartoons of my friend, Charlie Fincher, of South Padre Island, Texas, I offer this gem for Christmas. Like me, Charlie is always unabashedly politically incorrect, and his biting, satirical cartoons have brightened many a day for me. He puts his art on just about anything, and I am always willing to help a friend who wants to make a living doing anything other than what we do every day. If I could create a future in which I never again had to sit through a long deposition wanting to poke my eyes out with my pen, it would involve making a living drawing art and cartoons. Go, Charlie, go.

Tablet? Tablet? We Don't Need No Stinkin' Tablets!

This cute little commercial for the coming Motorola Tablet computers compares modern tablet computing with early stone tablets. However, rather than touting the coming dual core Motorola tablet as the crowning achievement of tablet evolution, the company should have included the netbooks that actually contain a real keyboard, and a real OS. Is the new Android tablet just a big Droid X? Is the iPad really just a big iPad? Or, are both of the new tablets just big screens that lack a decent input device, like a REAL KEYBOARD? Sometimes, I just want to scream.
