Kodak Wins a Round in $1 Billion Apple, RIM Patent Dispute - Bloomberg. When digital cameras started to become popular, it was the common view that Kodak would no longer be pre-eminent in the photographic world. Its film business died, and it's cameras became the souvenirs of a bygone era. Its film patents lost value as film died, and, when Kodachrome stopped being manufactured, millions of us shed a tear. But, fear not, brave photog. Kodak wasn't sleeping through the digital revolution. While the company became just another player in the digital camera world, its scientists and engineers were still the best in the business, and nobody has better R & D. So, it should be no surprise that Kodak owns the patents to processes that are essential to modern digital photography, and that Kodak will win some patent suits from companies using that technology. Kodak is very much alive, and one of the best known American trademarks is probably a very good stock buy right now.
It is good to know that this company is still out there. They really were the leader for such a long time and it was a shame to see them die out. I know they started making more cameras, but they really are just another player in the game.
