I used to try to train lawyers and secretaries in the use of legal software, so I know how true her post is. Most lawyers and secretaries avoid training like the plague; and, they all have an inflated sense of their knowledge about software and hardware. In fact, even the so called experts spend much of their time learning to improve their skills. No software is ever really mastered. There is always a time saving tip or trick to learn. How about you? This has to rank up there with the Royal wedding on dumb things to be concerned about. Perhaps iPhone users ought to be asking Apple why they haven't released a phone that takes advantage of the ten fold increase in speed of the Verizon Wireless LTE 4G network. When style prevails over substance, the consumer gets hosed.

Friday Fun: Angry Alien - How-To Geek. Okay, I admit it. I don't get the fascination with the Royal Wedding. I guess it is a girl thing. Two rich kids spending millions of dollars to get married, and millions of people watching it on TV. She Who Must Be Obeyed and She Who Will Someday Be Obeyed were up earlier than I this morning, and you have to get up really early to do that. So, I have a guy alternative...find some angry aliens and go knock down some obstacles, and destroy some human interlopers invading your planet. Hey, its got some socially redeeming value, like that human hating movie, Avatar.

Verizon restores LTE data network after outage - Computerworld. Wow, that was eye-opening. How spoiled we HTC Thunderbolt users had become in 30 days. Living a day at iPhone 3G speeds was enough to bear; Download speeds that are 10 times faster than 3G are like an addiction. The more you get, the more you want. I am certain that Verizon didn't do the outage on purpose; but, it had the desired effect. Now, we know what we had, and we will be grateful. How iPhone users can justify having a phone that will be 3G for at least a year is beyond me. I challenge any iPhone user to spend a couple of days with a 4g phone. Then, you will get it. Maybe.

Maximize Your Tablet Adventure For $10

One of my problems with tablet computing has been the virtual keyboard. It is suitable for entering user names and passwords; but, for blog posts, a real keyboard is essential. So, when I found this little keyboard at the local computer store for $10, I decided to give it a try. For a touch typist, it is a dream. Good key travel, a satisfying click when a key is pressed, and I am creating content with the flow of my thoughts again. The backspace and shift keys are too small; but, that is a small price to pay for the functionality this keyboard brings to my tablet. It plugs in to the USB port, and doesn't require a lot of room in the briefcase. Here is a photo of the setup. GTablet running a modded version of TnTLite, $399; Keyboard, $10, mobile road warrior functionality - priceless.

Verizon%u2019s 4G LTE Network Outages Cause Thunderbolt Users to Settle for 3G. Today's Verizon LTE 4G phone outage has caused many Thunderbolt users to go back to 3G for the day. It is amazing how acclimated one can get to the 4G speeds. I feel like I am downloading web pages and email in slow motion, now that I am 3G until the towers go back up. I will be very happy when Verizon gets the 4G working again. Actually, Verizon ought to steal the line from Apple, but reverse it: "It's a feature, not a bug!" We just turned off 4G for today, so that you all would realize how good you've got it! Oh, and for at least another year, this is the speed Apple users will be downloading at.

While most of us out here in pundit land realized that the IPhone location storing tempest belonged in a tea pot, the mainstream media and Congressmen with nothing better to do were raising such a storm of protest that Apple finally had to get in front of the maelstrom. So, in an announcement that is reminiscent of the great antenna fiasco, announced today that the cause of the location storing was not an intentional act, but a "bug" in the software. This reminds me of the old days; when computers were in their infancy, and something didn't work, the software company always claimed that the offending activity was actually a "feature" of the software, and not some negligent coding on its part. I suppose it is human to try to shift blame for a problem; however, Apple has raised the practice to an art form. Oh well.
