HTC Thunderbolt Extended Battery & Door Cover (2750 mAh). I love my new Thunderbolt. Like others, however, I discovered that the battery only lasted about 4 to 6 hours with heavy video and 4G use. So, I got the extended battery, which makes the back side of the phone look pregnant. I now get all day and into the night 4G goodness, and I really don't mind the fat back. It feels solid in the hands, and, while I realize this is a geek's phone, it has a following among non geeks as well. The chief witness is She Who Must Be Obeyed, who loves the thing. She kept the slim battery, and has a spare, just in case. However, she keeps it plugged in at work during the day, so never runs out of juice. The heavy duty battery is $49, and is well worth it for mobile warriors.
So, how about a rechargeable holster instead, with a built in battery? These already exist as an after-market accessory for the iPhone and several Blackberry models, so why not for each of the power-hundgry 4G phones entering the market (so far that includes the HTC Thunderbird, Samsung Droid Charge and Motorola Bionic)? The OEMs and the carriers who are promoting 4G should have had such an accessory available at release, since it would have eliminated the battery drainage dilemma, and made it far more likely that consumers would be willing to move up to 4G, despite the complaint that 4G takes lots of power.
