Hey NewEgg! Black November...Really?

Newegg.com - THE SAVINGS CONTINUE! $429.99 iPad, $299.99 Pioneer Receiver, $29.99 Digital Frame.... In the "Are you kidding me" category for Saturday, we have, for your viewing enjoyment, this ad that I received this morning in my email. Hey, I get it. Retailers are hurting in the recession. People don't have much money to spend. Black Friday begins the season in which most retailers start getting a start on getting in the "black". But, now, in addition to starting Black Friday on Thanksgiving Day, NewEgg wants a "Black November". I am just over it. And, to add insult to injury NewEgg insults my intelligence. When I go to the NewEgg main page, I see this ad prominently displayed. Uh, let's see, helicopter to play with, or diamond pendant for her or wrench driver to use to fix stuff around the house. Wow. That is a real no brainer. See you on the flight line.

Woman pepper sprays other Black Friday shoppers - CBS News. Now may be a good time to buy stock in a pepper spray company. It seems there is an epidemic of its use, from College kids sitting on the lawn to competing shoppers on Black Friday. I know, for the victims, it isn't funny; but, it does explain why I do my shopping virtually, and why I am going to the football game today instead of shopping. I like my violence to be controlled, and engaged in by other people. The other customers were probably relieved that she didn't have a pepper spray "gun". Of course, as the image below shows; it might not be safe to go to the football game either.

Google Plus is going head to head with Facebook; challenging its users to see the subtle differences in approach. I agree that Google Plus is where most of my professional contacts are going; and, where we share, as in real life. However, I also have a real life with my "social" social contacts, like family and friends; and, it seems to me they all are using Facebook. Is there a place for both in your life? Apparently; but, not while we are watching football.

It's Only Black Friday If Your Team Loses

For retailers, it is the beginning of the season that portends whether they stay in business, or lay more people off. For employees, it means jobs, and in this economy, that is important. However, beginning sales on Thanksgiving night or midnight on Friday is really tacky. We all know that Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday are for football. If you aren't playing, watching, or thinking about football during the 48 hours beginning on Thanksgiving Thursday, there is something seriously wrong with you. I will be with my family at RJS on Friday, from about 11 A.M. to 4 P.M., watching the Bulls challenge the Louisville Cardinals. My bargain gadget shopping will have been done online, at CompUSA/TigerDirect. There is something about College Football in the Fall. Of course, while everyone else is getting to know the relatives better, I will be hiding in the den, watching more football today.  So, kickoff bozo; let's get this show on the road! If you are one of my relatives, you can find me in the big chair, in front of the big screen, inside the grubbiest room in the house.

I first wrote this post a couple of years ago, and it has come to be a Thanksgiving Tradition. So, here it is again. Happy Thanksgiving.

10. Conducting a trial on a small wooden ship would be difficult.
9. The Seamen's Union would go on strike, and refuse to offload passengers and freight until their lawyers conducted settlement negotiations.
8. It would have taken years to get zoning approval for the houses the Pilgrims wanted to live in.
7. Where would all of the secretaries and paralegals have slept?
6. Contract negotiations with the Indians would have delayed the food delivery by months.
5. Litigation over the failure to pay a minimum wage to the food preparation staff would have resulted in a strike, and nobody would get to eat.
4. A lawsuit over the despoliation of the environment would have caused the crops to go unharvested.
3. The Indians would have filed a lawsuit claiming that the Pilgrims were trespassing on tribal land, and obtained an injunction.
2.  The Society for the Preservation of the Flowers of May would have  prevented the  docking of the ship, for tradename infringement.

And, drum-stick roll , please, the Number One reason  to be thankful there  were no lawyers on the MayFlower:

1.  The  Pilgrims  and the Indians would have flooded the colonial courts with litigation for  negligent food preparation when they all got sick from eating wild turkeys.
