Apple Wins Patent Victory Over Android, but Does It Matter?. In a narrow ruling, Apple has caused HTC to remove the phone dialing from emails and other apps feature from some of its phones. The victory requires HTC to remove the feature by next Spring; but, my old Incredible will still be warrantable until 2013. This begs the question of what happens to the Motorola Mobility patent claims against Apple, or the other patent fights going on. To all of these companies; especially Apple, who started it, I say: "Stop It!". Does anyone really believe that the U.S. Government will allow Apple to have a monopoly on cell phones? If anything, Apple's actions will cause a backlash against it, now that a large majority of mobile phones are non-Apple. In fact, these patent spats over software patents may just have the effect of diluting the viability and practicality of software patents on the whole. Apple has won a skirmish at the edge of a large battle in a larger war. Perhaps a global settlement among all of these bickering companies is the answer. I am sure that Coach Ditka is muttering somewhere: "Just Stop It!"
