Ask HTG: Dealing with Windows 8 CP Expiry, Nintendo DS Save Backups, Jumbled Audio Tracks in Windows Media Player - How-To Geek. Many of us have been playing around with the Consumer Preview of Windows 8. I loaded it on my previous main system, the Dell Inspiron Duo, because it has a flip touch screen. I am very happy with my new system, because it has an I7 chip and is the fastest available. However, in January, 2013, it is likely that Microsoft has built in a draconian bomb that will do all sorts of mischief, in a heavy handed attempt to wring more money out of me. This is despite the fact that we early adopters are functionally beta testing the Windows 8 software. Oh well. The good news is that I have a working backup of my last OS in the form of a complete image. So, if Microsoft debilitates my preview system, I can just reimage the drive, and merrily use Windows 7 for a few years. Of course, it may be that Microsoft will leave us early adopters alone, or that the new OS will be made available for less than a hundred bucks. I am so NOT holding my breath until that happens.
