The promotional video for the upcoming Asus PadPhone is out, and the device is intriguing. I have used my Droid Bionic with a laptop dock; but, the lack of touch screen functionality, and the weight of the keyboard (which can't be removed) made it not my everyday choice. Then, I got a great Asus tablet; but, it's lack of built in 4G LTE access made it incovenient, since I had to carry my WiFi access on my phone. It connnected and disconnected from a keyboard; which was nice; but I never had the keyboard handy when I needed it. The PadPhone solves these problems. You have a competent ICS phone, which does everything that the best Android phones do. Then, you slot it into the Pad and you have a touch screen tablet with built in Internet access. Then, you can plug it in to a keyboard, a la the Transformer modality. While I am happy with my Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone and my Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet, I am paying $30 a month for data on the phone, and $50 a month for data on the tablet. With the PadPhone I could cut that in half. Hmmm... Catch the video and see what you think.
