It is so good that app developers don't even think about security anymore. Android app developers are the same. Neither mobile system is really completely secure, however, and securing a system in the OS makes it easier for hackers to create malware. They only have to concentrate on the OS, and a hack will affect all apps. Since most hacks rely on unsuspecting users anyway, this is a real problem. As mobile devices have become more common, and as enterprises have become more receptive to the "bring your own device" movement, IT managers have an impossible job. Even Google and Apple engineers are not able to create 100% secure systems. If you are on Android, run Lookout Mobile Security on all your devices. If you are an Apple user, become an educated consumer, and consider security apps. You will be glad you did.

Sign, edit, and fax documents online | HelloFax. This Chrome application is free; but, if you want more than 5 pages, you need to get a paid subscription. For $4.95 a month, you can fax 50 pages a month right from your computer. It even has a signature option, although I am a little security conscious and still prefer original signatures. It is a perfect complement to my regular EFax account, which costs $19.95 a month, and is much easier to use. Just sign in with Google, pick out a file from Google Drive or your local drive, and put in a fax number. Presto, efaxes go out. It is much simpler to use than Efax, and you can log in with your Google account. It also works well with collaborative efforts. Create a Team and bulk fax to everyone without the laborious entry of multiple fax numbers. Another Internet tool in the FutureLawyer toolbox.

Swingline Stack-and-Shred 80X Paper Shredder Review. When I read this Lawyerist review of the stackable paper shredder by Swingline, I knew I wanted one. How cool to stack 80 sheets of paper in the shredder, press a button, and watch it do its work! However, $169 is pretty pricey for something that duplicates what my current shredder already does. It is a chore feeding 16 sheets at a time through it; but, I already have it. So, when I was in a Staple's store in Naples, Florida this afternoon (I left my notebook lock chain at home and needed a replacement) imagine my surprise to see a 100 sheet version of the Swingline Stack and Shred for sale next to the cash register. The retail price of this monster, however, is $249. Then, I notice the clearance sale sign. It was marked down to $112! And, since I am a Staple's reward customer, I ended up paying $101 for the unit. I don't know why Staple's decided to clear them out; but, if you are near a Staple's you might want to check this one out.

How to skip Windows 8 and continue using Windows 7 | ZDNet. As old as I am, I may never have to upgrade to Windows 8 on my main machine. Windows 7 has a support life of seven years left; and, if Wndows XP is a guide, you will be able to keep it longer than that, if you want to. Of course, I will pay the $39.99 and upgrade my Dell laptop, because it has a touch screen. But, I will wait for a new computer with a touch screen before I update anything else. If you don't want to upgrade, don't. And, don't let anyone tell you differently.

Well, here is a DIY solution that is beautiful, functional, and cost around $30 in materials. Get to work.

SmartWatch Universal IM Download | ZDNet. I love my SmartWatch. My SmartWatch is a friend of mine. However, having it beep, buzz and vibrate every time I get an email or somebody posts to Facebook is annoying in the extreme. In fact, I have turned off the notifications for everything except the phone calls. The notification buzzer is useless. The SmartWatch screen is too small to identify the sender, or a brief hint at the message. So, what good is it? I know that I will be getting an email, or a phone call, or an IM, or someone is posting to something or other all day long. Why do I need to be notified in the first place? Now, this developer has combined notifications from a collection of messaging systems into one SmartWatch app. Uh, no thanks.

Google Searching - Let Your Fingers Do The Walking

Google adds Handwrite search to mobile devices - SlashGear. I often am asked why I am such a passionate member of the Googleverse. After all, I endure the slings and arrows of Apple lovers every time I praise Android and pan Apple. I love the innovative engineers at Google. I love the freshness of approach, and the fearless willingness to try everything and be open to new ideas. Google mimics my attitudes to life. I am always looking for a better way. I am not married to a particular method. I believe that the mind at play is the happy mind. Adding handwriting recognition to search is another example of this mindset. Typing searches, and, recently, searching with your voice, might be enough for some. However, now the many touch screens available give a new search technique its due. Just scrawl cursive letters on the screen, and let Google predict, then search, the vast reaches of the Internet. Until Google turns into Apple, which turned into IBM, I remain an interested observer and user of its many products for making my life as a lawyer and a human being better.
