Document management in the cloud | PaperPort Anywhere. I am a long time user of PaperPort, and intuitive, easy to use, document managment application that has had a bumpy history. Finally, in PaperPort  14, Nuance got it right, and I scan just about every document going in and out of my office, and store them in PaperPort. The paperless office is a great way to survive as a solo practitioner. Now, with the update of Paperport Anywhere for Android, I can scan and save documents on the go, as well as have access to my documents in the cloud from anywhere. I use it on all 3 of my devices, a Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone, a Google Nexus 7, 7 inch tablet, and an ASUS Transformer TF101 10 inch tablet. Your documents everywhere, and using the camera phone to add more. Who needs a portable scanner? The PaperPort Android scanner application is as good as, or better than, many of the dedicated scanning applications for Android. 

Curiosity Finds Evidence Of Flowing Water On Mars

It has been speculated that the discovery of water on Mars would lead to other discoveries. Today, in the News live presentation, the NASA scientists confirmed that they have found evidence of flowing water, and rocks being formed by collision and flow to smaller, smooth rocks. An alluvial fan was found (An alluvial fan is a fan-shaped deposit formed where a fast flowing stream flattens, slows, and spreads typically at the exit of a canyon onto a flatter plain), which gives strong evidence of large quantities of water on Mars. As we know, that means the possibility of life, as we know it. The science fiction writers were closer to the truth than we thought. Amazing.

Truecaller -Filter Out Annoying Callers

Truecaller - Android Apps on Google Play. This very useful Android app replaced my previous call blocker, primarily because the previous app was always bugging me to upgrade to a version with services I didn't want or need. Annoying. If you are tired of getting sales calls, robo calls, calls from politicians who seem to think that annoying you is the way to get your support, and any other obnoxious cold callers, just install this Android app. Then, if you get a call from one of them, you can click the + symbol, and add the number to your block list. Works great, and it comes with a really good Caller ID system. It also has reverse lookup, and other features.

Barnes and Noble Nook HD - Do You Need One?

Barnes and Noble introduce 7" Nook HD and 9" Nook HD | Android Central. Okay, if you are a Barnes and Noble fan, as I am, you have long had a Nook account. In fact, the early Nook Color tablets gave me many hours of enjoyment tweaking them and flashing them so they acted more like tablets. Some of you, however, only need a tablet to read books and magazines, and for light web browsing and email. You want a dedicated solution. I get my Nook stuff from a very good Android app; but, if you want a dedicated reader, that has Internet capability, the new Nook tablets will be an attractive option for you. They are priced to compete with the Kindle Fire and the new Nexus 7. If you want a tablet reader that features the Barnes and Noble Store, get the Nook HD or HD+. If you want a tablet reader that features the Amazon Store, get the new Fire. If you want the best tablet, get a Google Nexus 7. Next question.

Leave Your Laptop Plugged In - Can't Hurt

Should I Leave My Laptop Plugged In All The Time? - How-To Geek. I love lazy man's solutions to tech problems. I have, since Lithium Ion batteries became standard on notebook computers, always left them plugged in whenever I had a power source. I am the "keep the gas topped up" guy, because SWMBO is merciless when I run out of gas. You can't hurt a Li-Ion battery by keeping it plugged in. Modern notebooks have a circuit that prevents overcharging. When the battery is full, it shuts off. And, when I am at home or the office, I don't have to worry about it. Just plug it in once, and leave it alone, all day or all night. Then, if you have to use it on the run, you will always start with a full charge. On the other hand, read this How-to Geek article to understand why you might want to be alert to the temperature of your computer and battery; because, that might very well have a deleterious effect on the computer. I use a cheap USB fan plate under the system at home and at the office. Modern processors have a tendency to run hot, so a cool breeze helps.

This Is Your Brain On Samsung

Yes, the iPhone 5's Brain Is Made by Samsung. Apple is out in the world bragging about its new iPhone 5, with a spiffy new chip, the A6, successor to the chip that runs the iPhone 4S. Without the chip, the new Apple smartphones are a mere shell. Think case of metal and parts wandering the world Zombie like, with no brain. "iPhone's Brain" - sounds like an episode of StarTrek. Remember the one where Spock's brain is removed, and used to run a starship? But, I digress. The key factoid here is that Samsung makes the iPhone 5's brain. Big technology, go figure. Samsung and Apple are way too interconnected for this patent litigation foolishness to go on. Now that Apple has stopped using Google Maps, what will it do about the A6 chip?
