Surface Pro pricing: Positioned like a tablet, built like an Ultrabook | PCWorld. PCWorld didn't go far enough in this comparison. These new Surface Pros are going to be VERY expensive; I predict that the pricing will scare away many prospective buyers; especially those who already have Microsoft ultrabooks, and Android tablets. Why reinvent the wheel and pay Apple like prices? Seriously, are any of you going to pay north of a thousand dollars for one of these? Didn't think so.

Consumer Reports: AT&T Is Last, Verizon Is First

Consumer Reports ranks AT&T last among US carriers, Verizon first. I was shocked, shocked I tell you, to find out that Consumer Reports ranked AT&T as the worst mobile carrier in the world. Like the baby in the TV commercials, this is my shocked face! I can remember the first ad wars between AT&T and Verizon, and AT&T trying to hide the fact that its network is inferior to Verizon. Hey, I have had my problems with Big Red: too expensive, customer service that can be arrogant, delayed upgrades, and so forth. But, in reliability and strength of network, where it really counts, there is no contest here. In fact, my skill at hacking and upgrading my phones can be traced directly to Verizon's foot dragging with updates. So, I guess you could say they did me a favor. Consumer Reports, you decide.

As I was installing software, and setting up my new Galaxy Note II, I was remembering my first cellular phone that I could actually carry around. It was a Motorola DynaTac, and it was a marvel in 1985. Then, in 1989, the Motorola MicroTac was the first flip phone. These behemoths, by today's standards, did nothing but make and receive phone calls, and they didn't do that very well. I still remember having to carry them in my briefcase, and go outside to get a signal. Do you remember your first phone? 

If You Want The Biggest, Baddest, Fastest Phone On The Planet

Review: Samsung Galaxy Note II Smartphone. Here is a review from someone who doesn't like the Note II. I have had mine a day, and I love it. Combining the biggest, fastest phone with Verizon Wireless, makes this the top of the line on the planet, in my opinion. I love the active stylus. This isn't just a pointing device. When you hover the stylus over something, more information pops up in a box. You can scroll without touching the screen. Just hover the stylus at the top, bottom, left or right, depending on the context, and the screen rolls over. Very nice. I have big hands, so I can use it with one hand; although, I don't mind using both hands at all. When was the last time you noticed someone ignoring you by using their phone, and thought, "hey, she is using the thing one handed?" This is just not an issue for me. Ultimately, this is a geek's phone, and a guy phone. And, I disagree with the author of this article. I can read my newspapers on it, and I don't have to carry a tablet with me any more. With a case that has a kick stand, I set the thing up in landscape mode, and I can watch the news with SlingPlayer at my desk. My teenage daughter likes the tiny iPhone. SWMBO loves the larger Galaxy S III she inherited from me. I like the big, honking Note II. Call it the three bears theory of smartphones. Baby bear, Mama bear, and PaPa Bear. We have it covered.

Galaxy Note II First Impressions

The phone was just delivered, and I have unboxed it, transferred my SIM card and 32 Gig Micro SD card from the Galaxy S3. She Who Must Be Obeyed is going to get a new S3 tonight. However, just setting up this phone has made it clear that it is the one I have been waiting for. Ever since I used a stylus to tap out text on the first Palm Pilot, I have been struggling with my fat fingers (no fat jokes, please) and the tiny phone screens. It is a true delight to use the stylus, and it is 50 % faster than finger entry. Okay, more tomorrow, as I have a lot of restoring apps to do.

It was sometime in college, and it changed my life and attitudes from the first reading. If you haven't read it, get it and read it. If you have a copy gathering dust on your shelves, take it out and read it again. This one book can replace all of the self help books and seminars you have ever seen advertised on cable TV. It is still amazing to me that Dale Carnegie wrote it in 1937. However, relying on a simple truth about people, that they are most concerned about themselves, he conveyed a simple path to persuasion, which is an essential skill in the legal profession, as well as all others. Knowing this truth gives us the knowledge we need to avoid thinking about our own needs, and giving attention to the other's needs. Try really listening to your clients. Often, we don't really listen to others, even though the words pass through our ears. Show interest, real, not feigned, in the life and concerns of another person. Be yourself. Ignore those who tell you to copy someone else. It will never work long term, and will result in a phoniness that can be spotted a mile away.
