Huawei executive happily shows off 6.1 inch Ascend Mate ahead of CES | Android Central.
I enjoyed Christmas Day; especially the part where my Note II screen got compared to the iPhones in the house. In my home, where I live, I have two iPhone users. My life is spiraling out of control. However, the good news is that when we lay our phones down on the counter, and start taking Christmas photos, there is great satisfaction in comparing the tiny iPhone screens to my 5.5 inch bright beautiful Samsung super AMOLED screen running Jelly Bean Android. Now, it appears that the New Year will bring a Huawei (pronounced WaWay) Ascend Mate, with a 6.1 inch screen. Yes, you read that right. This phone is reaching the limits of usability. You might as well go all the way, and make a 7 inch tablet with phone functions. Actually, the 5 1/2 inch Note II screen is big enough that I don't carry my 7 or 10 inch tablets much anymore. On occasion, I will use them, but for daily use, the only device I carry is the Note II.
What You Don't Know About Christmas. Merry Christmas. Bet you didn't know that today wasn't always Christmas. There are many things about this day that you can find out at History.com. I love the holiday, because it combines so many traditions, religious, pagan, and commercial. You don't have to have any particular viewpoint to celebrate this holiday. So, celebrate the day in your own tradition. And, remember that it is all about love.
It's fat, it's ugly, and it's old. But, I realized, while looking at all the new Windows tablets, that I already own one. When I installed Windows 8 on my old Inspiron Duo, I put it away, and have been using my ASUS notebooks and tablets for daily work. However, occasionally, I pull out the Duo just to use its convertible screen, and for fun. It seems way too heavy to carry around for tablet use, and the screen isn't as bright as I like; but, until Windows 8 tablets come out next year, it is still far better than the brain dead Windows RT tablets in the stores. They are slim and sexy; but, they are dumb, especially when it comes to running real Windows applications. They only run Microsoft stuff like Office and such. Ugh. Microsoft, for a billion dollar company, you really have lousy instincts about what your customers want. I wonder how many consumers have bought the slim, sexy Windows RT tablets like Surface, only to be disappointed when they find out they won't run legacy Windows apps. My Duo runs them just fine, thank you very much. Here is a video of a user who installed 8 on his machine:
12 Most Divorce-Worthy Gifts to Give Your Wife This Holiday Season.
This post could have been written by SWMBO. Except that, in my case, I never have difficulty in choosing gifts for Christmas or any other special occasion. Wine and Jewelry are at the top of the list. You need go no further. However, if you are spouse gift challenged, here is a great list of things NOT to buy her for Christmas. Unless, of course, you want to be divorced, and you don't want to be the one to pay the filing fee. Of course, a SWMBO T Shirt is always correct and appreciated.
My hunt for the perfect Windows 8 convertible laptop | Common Sense Tech - CNET News.
As we approach a new year, expect to see many new Windows 8 computers, in a variety of styles. I am leaning toward an ASUS Transformer Book, which will have a Windows 8 tablet similar to the original Android based Transformer, that will connect to a keyboard with an additional battery; but, unlike the original Transformer, it will have an SSD hard drive for all your Windows legacy programs and data. If a connectible is too bulky for you, there are a bunch of convertibles coming that have screens that flip into tablet mode when you want. If these are thin and light enough to compete with the current crop of tablets that run Android and IOS, they may be where I'm headed. In any event, none of them are ready to go under the tree this year, so it will be a few months before you have to choose. In the meantime, settle in with this really good summary of what is coming from Danny Sullivan at CNET. Educate yourself before you buy.
