A hail and farewell to AltaVista | Internet & Media - CNET News.
Yahoo has finally killed AltaVista. Back in the day, my favorite browser was Netscape, and my favorite search engine was AltaVista. As part of Yahoo, AltaVista morphed into a start page of sorts; but, the fall of Netscape, and the rise of FireFox and Chrome, signaled the end a long time ago. The latest killing of AltaVista is long overdue, and most of us haven't used it in years. However, it is nice to know that Internet Explorer is an after thought nowadays, and the third party browsers have taken over the asylum. Browse on. You should probably Google AltaVista.
