Voyager 1 Has Almost Left The Solar System - Forbes.
In September, 1977, NASA sent Voyager 1 on a journey. 36 years later it is about to exit our solar system. We don't know that for certain because we can't talk to it; but, minute changes in charged particles out there can be measured, and we will certainly know when it enters interstellar space. One of the StarTrek movies I love the most postulated this event, and friendly aliens make it into a powerful machine that travels back to us with only four letters of its name left: thus Voyager became Vger. I even have a duplicate of the gold record sent into space with it, with human images and music on it. I have always thought that the aliens would love the music, and make fun of the images. Hey, what if the aliens don't have turntables?
