Review: Windows 8.1 widens, not narrows, gap with older PCs - The Washington Post.
Start 8 by StarDock, the most useful Five Bucks I have spent in a long time, will still be required this summer when Microsoft Windows 8.1 brings back the Start button. The little Window in the lower left corner of the Desktop is the starting point for most computing on Windows, and the new version will have one. However, the new version will not bring up the traditional Start Menu of recent stuff and programs and folders. No. It brings you back to the new Interface formerly known as Metro. What? I think Steve Ballmer and his Microsoft engineers just don't get it. Even though I now have a touch screen laptop, it is usually docked to a big screen, keyboard, scanner, printer, and other peripherals. Hey, it's free, and we will load it. But, this isn't your old Windows, not by a long shot. Run, do not walk, to StarDock, and pay the Five Dollars. You'll be glad you did.
Let's hope 8.1 won't break Start8. :-\
Like you, I'd be lost without it.
