Curiosity Gets Around Mars with Nuclear Powered Space Battery.
It is cool that, after seven months of science experiments, Curiosity gets to take a summer vacation on Mars. At 90 feet per hour, it will be the longest road trip in history, taking 9 months to a year to get to the mountain range closest to it. However, the really cool thing is that the Rover is nuclear powered. That is right. While we are putzing around on Earth playing with internal combustion engines and electric vehicles, Curiosity gets a long lasting space battery that uses radioisotopes for power. The natural decay of Plutonium 238 creates a battery that never needs recharging. Hey, can I get one of these for my smartphone?
