I Just Love The Classics

Review: Classic Shell brings the Start menu to Windows 8 for free | PCWorld. Okay, cheapskates. It has been reported that some of you are mucking along with the Windows 8 Metro interface, and unwilling to pay five bucks for Start 8 to get back your classic Start Menu. I love navigating around my StartMenu, searching and looking for Programs when I don't have a Quick Launch Icon available. Now I discover that you can get back your StartMenu, customize it, add in a better Windows Explorer, and other stuff for free. Yes, you read it right. Classic Shell brings back the Start Menu, and gives you an amplified Windows Explorer for free. This freeware has been around since 2009, so I have no clue why I didn't know about it before. But, we know now. Get back to the Classics. 

Black Friday Deals - No Buyers

64GB microSD Card MB-MGCGB Pro Series | Samsung microSD Cards. I had a great time hitting the stores this morning. Apparently, many shoppers shopped online, or last night, but I experienced no lines and plenty of bargains that made the trip worthwhile. I got a color laser printer from Samsung for $129, a huge discount. High end Bluetooth stereo on ears speakers for the girls, so they can listen to their tunes while around the house, and never miss a phone call. They were marked down to $24.99 from a retail of $79. But, by far the biggest bargain was what I went out for in the first place. 64 Gig Micro SD cards, which I use in my Samsung ATIV Win 8 tablet computer, and in my Galaxy phones were $29.99. They normally go for around $100. I had fun, and some of my friends got paid for an extra day's work. ( I buy so much stuff, they know me by my first name). My sense was that there would be plenty of deals available all day; so, if you are up to it, get out there and support your fellow Americans.

Black Friday (shopping) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. It is 5 A.M. I am rethinking my idea to go shopping today. However, after a couple of cups of coffee, I will brave the freezing cold outside (It is a frigid 56 degrees here on the West Coast of Florida), and get out there with the rest of the maniacs. I could probably avoid it, and shop online today; but, where is the fun in that? Shop on.

Why Do We Celebrate Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. First, I hope you are having a happy Thanksgiving Day. In fact, every day should be Thanksgiving, shouldn't it? Happiness is all about being grateful for what we have; not about going out and searching for what we don't have. The freedom to choose, whether to work or not, whether to shop or not, what to eat, with whom to share the day; all of these freedoms are to be thankful for. Let's start another tradition here at FutureLawyer. Comment on what you are thankful for today. It doesn't have to be all inclusive. I, for example, am thankful for my immediate family, my extended family, and all of the persons with whom I have contact each day. I am most thankful for a loving wife, and beautiful kids, and for my health. Look around. No matter your circumstances, there is something to be thankful for. If you are alone, may you be comforted. If you are sick, may you get better. If you are unemployed, know that you are being prayed for. Be thankful for what you have, and get out there and pay it forward. I am going to do some shopping tomorrow; not only because I enjoy it, but because the money I spend helps to create jobs for others, who use that money to live. This is my prayer for this Thanksgiving Day.

Unplug For The Holidays? Why?

Unplug for the Holidays? No Way! | Social Media Today. What if I told you that, for the good of your body and soul, you should not overeat on Thanksgiving? What, you say? That is part of the tradition. No way I am giving up Turkey, Sage Dressing, Cranberry sauce, mashed pototatoes, etc. just because it might, in the opinion of the latest Nanny State pundit, be "good for me". So, just as food is good for the body and soul, so also is social media activity over the holidays. Communicating with others has become part of who we are. We don't have to deny who we are, or turn off our brains, just because some bozo thinks we need to. So, enjoy the holiday. Text and email and phone to your heart's content. You are the sole judge of what makes you happy. For me and mine, we are plugging in, turning on, and going with the flow. (I love mixed metaphors; so sue me!)

Talk To Your Computer - It Knows

Familiar %u201COk Google%u201D hotword arrives on desktop via official Chrome extension. If you have spotted me walking around looking like I am talking to myself, you are half right. With my Note 3 in a case on my hip, a Jabra Stone 3 earset in my ear, and my Galaxy Gear SmartWatch on my wrist, I can be heard to say "OK Google" all the time. The OK Google meme has become the way we communicate with our watches and smartphones, and we can ask Mother Google any question and get a fast, accurate answer. It's like having your mother around all the time; except that she only offers advice when you ask for it. Now, Google has brought the meme to the desktop, and, anytime you are at Google Search you can wake her up by saying: "OK Google". Then, when you ask "Do I have any appointments today?" your list of events on Google Calendar pop up in the browser, in agenda format, and a pleasant female voice runs down the day. The results are for your eyes only; unless, that is, somebody is standing behind you.

This Post Is RAW

Google Confirms Android Will Get RAW Imaging and Burst Mode %u2013 xda-developers. Not that kind of RAW. Serious photographers have learned to love digital SLRs that save large RAW digital images, which can then be edited and manipulated in the digital darkroom. Google has announced that, with the increasing power and storage of modern Android devices, RAW support is coming. Burst mode support is also coming; but, that can now be done with third party photo apps. Except for long lens support, the day of the digital SLR could be waning. What's in your pocket?

Here Kitty, Kitty!

I can hardly contain my excitement. This is me being excited. (Yawn). I have waited so long for the KitKat update to my Nexus 7 that it was anti-climactic this morning when I powered up and saw this message. The update promises new features and better performance. Talking to the computer by saying "OK Google" to wake it up, immersive reading and viewing that hides useless icons and uses the whole screen space, faster multitasking by better use of memory, automatic prioritization of contacts, giving a Google Now like presence to contacts management, better Caller ID (using Google Maps to identify callers not in your database), further consolidation of messaging with the new Hangouts app, making it easier to keep track of the various ways people contact us, and much more. Meow.

 

Why Do I Feel Like A Secret Agent Man?

Since I have been carrying the Galaxy Note 3 on my hip, the Jabra Stone 3 earset in my ear, and the Galaxy Gear SmartWatch on my arm, I have been merrily humming this song from my youth. I may start wearing black suits with thin lapels, white shirts with skinny black ties, and dark Men in Black shades. Or, maybe I really AM a lunatic.
