Sony SmartWatch 2 SW2 review - Comparison to Samsung Galaxy Gear (Wired UK).
The more I have used and reviewed the new SmartWatches, the more I have realized that the Dick Tracy talk to your wrist fantasy is not the best way to handle the problem of modern smartphone use. As I use the SmartWatch 2 from Sony, I realized that I didn't want to talk to the watch. I wanted to control the smartphone from the watch, and be made aware of what was happening via notifications, without taking the phone out of my pocket or out of its case. The SmartWatch 2, in combination with my Jabra earset, does a better job of this than the heavier Galaxy Gear, with its built in camera and speaker. Both the SmartWatch 2 and the Jabra Stone 2 earset are connected to the phone via bluetooth. I can dial the phone on the SmartWatch 2, I can scroll through my contacts and favorites and dial with a tap. The call is handled through the earset, all while the phone sits in my pocket or briefcase. Look ma, no hands! If you have a bluetooth earset and a smartphone running Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) or later, this is the SmartWatch for you. Thin, sleek, black, water resistant, and classy piece of awesomeness. Now, I just need some dark spy-style sunglasses.
