Execupundit.com: Job Interview. There are many books, tapes, and other sources which purport to tell job seekers how to present oneself to get a job. This excerpt from Harold Nicolson's book about Dylan Thomas' job interview with him is instructive. Brilliance is often not recognized in applicants with dirty trousers, ugly countenance, and bad clothing judgment. However, brilliance will out, and it often doesn't matter whether the brilliance is rewarded with a job. If you are an unemployed lawyer in this economy, use what is in you: your knowledge can never be taken away. Hang a shingle. Take a risk. Go it alone. I did it in 1972 with another young graduate, and went solo in 1985, and can proudly say I never had a real job. Thanks to the Internet, some days, like today, which is a Monday (I hate Mondays,) I can follow my passion in my home office, wearing shorts and a T-shirt. I may not be Dylan Thomas; but, I can be who I am. In his line, "And death shall have no dominion", he could have been talking about unemployment, as professional death. But, in the end, you get to decide what will have dominion over you. Now, get out there.
