Facebook requires standalone Messenger app for mobile chat - CNET. When Facebook prompted me to download a stand alone messenger app, I politely declined. Facebook already controls enough of my online activity. In fact, sometimes, the quality interaction I get with family and friends online seems like an essential part of my day. Leaving aside the professional benefits of Facebook connections with potential clients, I feel like Facebook has gradually taken advantage of my addiction. The requirement of using Messenger for online chat is a perfect example. Will you leave Facebook if you can't have Mobile Chat available? Of course not. But, Mr. Facebook, I don't have to like it. And, there will come a day when I regain control of this relationship. I have to stop now, as I have to check my Facebook messages.
