Google Offering Doctor Video Chats To Symptom Searchers | Geeks are Sexy Technology News. Internet video, as it matures, gives rise to a lot of interactive possibilities, and a video chat with a Doctor is just the latest experiment by Google. The promise of ubiquitous video calling has never really caught on; although many overseas friends and family have been using Skype and related services to stay in touch for a long time. Hangouts is now robust enough to do the same; but, do we really want to trust the cloud for our confidential chats with our Doctor and Lawyer? Even more risky is talking to a Doctor or Lawyer who doesn't have the time for a complete history. For Doctors, not having physical contact with a patient can really reduce the effectiveness of a consult. And, just talking to a Doctor to get medical information and may be less effective that a Google search for information. Lawyers also have many jurisdictional problems, given that the law is State specific in most areas. I am all for established attorneys and clients to use a secure network to converse; although, phone and email contact is probably sufficient. What do you think?
I think the world is headed this direction one way or another but it might be a windy road to get there.
