DarkHotel: A Sophisticated New Hacking Attack Targets High-Profile Hotel Guests | WIRED. Okay, I know that most of you are now using VPN, and tunneling through it to the Internet when you are using Hotel WiFi. You aren't? Well, read this article about a sophisticated hack that plants malware on hotel WiFi systems, and targets hotel guests. Yes, they only target particular persons or delegations; but, the hack is deceptive in the extreme. As soon as you get on the Hotel WiFi, you get a pop-up for an Adobe update, with a valid security certificate. If you download it, they have you. How to avoid infected public WiFi systems? Why, don't use them of course. Get a MiFi device, and use your phone's Internet access. Or, use the phone itself to set up a mobile HotSpot. Even if you were tunneling with a VPN, you would be susceptible to this hack because it was embedded in the hotel WiFi system. Be careful out there.
