Internet Research Tips and Resources for Lawyers. We don't do research in books anymore. We don't even use CDs. Today's lawyer, and anyone else who needs information, does it on the Internet. This article highlights some of the better research tips and resources available to lawyers and other researchers. My favorite is the "filetype: pdf" search term to be used on a website. All of the pdf documents available will pop up. Of course, learning to use connectors like the AROUND operator always pulls in more results than a simple phrase search. Dig in, researcher. It's all there for the asking.

Run Android On Your Windows Tablet - DuOS-M

Two OSes in one: DuOS-M puts Android on your Windows device | Computerworld. I use two tablets. My main computer is a Windows 8.1 tablet that runs just about every program I use, and have used for years, to run my practice. However, while a tablet, I prefer the content display programs of my Samsung Android tablet. I use it to read many newspapers from around the country, and to keep up with social media on the go. So, I carry both of them when I travel or go to and from work. This $10 program promises to install a complete KitKat Android OS on a Windows computer, and to run in a window like any other program. While I will still keep my trusty Samsung tablet, I think this is a worthy enterprise, and installing and populating it with software sounds like a great Sunday project.

Google Photos - Call Me Addicted

Google Photos behind the app -- scanning makes it special. I've only been using Google Photos a couple of days, and I am already addicted. I love that I no longer have to do my own grouping, categorizing, or storing of my photos. Everything accessible and in one place and safe forever (at least in human terms); what more could you ask? I still have early digital photos stored on floppy disks, and outdated storage devices that would require an expedition to find. Thanks, Google. I particularly like the unlimited storage space. Except for my friends who want to store images that are unusually large, most of us have thousands of everyday images of friends and family that will now be archived for our lifetimes, and those of our progeny. I haven't used the word "amazing" in a while. But, amazing.

Google+ Is Dead...Long Live Google+

Death of Google greatly exaggerated, says its chief - CNET. Don't tell my friends on Google+ that it is a dying platform. Just because Google has spun off the photo app just means that Google Photo is going to the be the best repository for your life images on the web. Google+ remains the social network for people who are passionate about something, be it their work, their lives, their hobbies, or their intellectual pursuits. Google+ is what LinkedIn should be, instead of a big bulletin board populated with self serving business cards. Google+s new mission, to combine those with shared interests, dovetails with its mission to bring new services to the Internet. Just as Google Photo will collect, categorize and manage all of your images effortlessly, so also Google+ will bring together people of like minds and interests in a host of human endeavor. Google On.

Google Photos - All Your Photos All The Time

Google launches Google Photos, a new service independent of Google . One of the coolest things announced yesterday at Google I/O 15 was Google Photos, an independent photo collection and sharing app, independent of Google+, and available now. No matter what device you are on, all of your photos everywhere are available, in chronological order and in context. No more scrolling and searching through thousands of photos and dozens of locations. This one I will download and use today.

Google I/O 2015 - The Short List

Everything Google Announced at Google I/O 2015. I watched the LiveStream of the Keynote at Google I/O 2015 yesterday at lunch. The other restaurant patrons thought I was crazy; but, I was in my happy place, with my earphones in, and pretending I was at the event. No earth shattering news; except that the new mobile OS, Android M was announced, and the improvements are mind boggling. The list is here, of all the new stuff; but, my favorites are the ability to set permissions in individual apps, the intelligent "doze" feature that will double battery life based on the motion sensors already in the phone, and the increased speed and smoothness. I have pretty much abandoned Chrome for Firefox; but, I will give the new version a try, once Android M is out. The improvements to Android Wear are also impressive, and I can see giving up my Tizen based Gear S once Wear gets WiFi and a phone chip. For now, I use my Wear devices on my left wrist and my Gear S on my right wrist. Now, I need some more arms.

Still Think Wearable Computing Devices Are A Fad?

A use case for smartwatches that is literally saving lives | Android and Me. I can't count the number of people who have told me that wearable smartwatches are a fad. Nobody wears a watch anymore. They have their phones for that. Why do I need another device when I can just pick up my phone. Of course, they forget that men and women have been wearing watches for hundreds of years, and that SmartWatches merely add functionality to our lives. More than that, however, as this story shows, they will be at the vanguard of new medicine, acting as health monitoring devices. This developer added a continuous glucose monitor to a SmartWatch, and the device replaces most of the blood tests required to manage diabetes. As wearable computing devices are developed further, it isn't a stretch to say that many medical monitoring tasks will be performed by them.

Android Pay - Look For It At Google I/O Next Week

Android Pay likely at Google I/O as Samsung preps its own service | Computerworld. Mobile payment services are becoming more plentiful; but, which one, if any, will survive? Due to sheer numbers of handsets out there, it is a good bet that Android Pay, to be announced next week at Google I/O, and Apple Pay, will both survive. Will we become comfortable paying for things in the ether? Will we still want paper receipts? Much depends upon security issues, and ease of use. I look forward to Google's entry into this market.

Lenovo Cast - Both Internet TV And Chromecast

Lenovo Cast: Like Chromecast and Apple TV had a baby. This $49 device from Lenovo will stream your phone screen to any HDMI equipped TV within 20 meters. However, it is also an Internet TV device, giving it additional capabilities. Using WiFi to connect to a local router, and the Miracast and DLNA standards, it is a presenter's dream device for showing off Android phones and apps.
