Is Google Docs Secure Enough to Store Client Files? | Ball in your Court. I agreed with this 2011 article by Craig Ball, and, with the addition of two factor authentication, Google Drive, in my opinion, meets the test of security for lawyer files. It is a matter of degree. Any file or document can be stolen. Any computer system can be hacked. Absolute security is impossible, and thus not required. Reasonable precautions is the correct test, and two factor authentication of Google Drive files meets the test. I have often used Craig's "is it safe on paper in a mailbox test?". In fact, we send confidential documents by U.S. Mail every day. Could the mail be stolen? Yes. Do we have a reasonable level of confidence in the mail? Yes. Security is a matter of degree. Get knowledgeable, and you will be as secure as you can be.
