Tonight%u2019s leap second may cause problems for the Internet | Ars Technica UK. Okay. I get it. The earth's rotation is slowing by milliseconds each year. Our method of measuring time is only as accurate as the physical phenomena against which it is measured. And, every few years, Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) has to add a second. Tonight, at midnight UTC (8 P.M. EST), July 1st will arrive a second late. No big deal, you say? Well, a lot of computer code for a lot of stuff is measured in seconds of time. And, the last time we did this, some high profile websites went down, airline flights got delayed, and who knows what else. So, tonight, I will be hunkered down in the FutureLawyer lair, watching baseball, and hoping the world doesn't end. How about you?
