States That Require a Bona Fide Office. This article examines the fifty states' positions on the requirement that lawyers practice from a fixed, physical location. Florida requires a "bona fide" office location; even though such a location is probably no longer necessary in an Internet world. I have a converted old house, from which I have based my practice for thirty years. I like having my own space to go to, and I recently renovated an old file room into a man cave. But, should a physical location be mandatory? At least, the Bar can't make me get rid of my parrots. Or can they?
