Check out Samsung's television ad for the Gear VR. The Gear VR is the latest version of the virtual reality glasses that I have been using for a year now. Mine is compatible with my Galaxy Note 4. The new version is cheaper, lighter; but, it only works with the newest Galaxy phones the S6 and the Note 5. In either case, enter another world and lose yourself in the future. VAIO Z Canvas - Best Tablet In The World?

VAIO Z Canvas - Meet VAIO's New High Performance Tablet. I am perfectly happy with my Sony VAIO Tap 11 Tablet, which has 128 gigs of fast SSD storage, a middling processor, and a slim, light profile. It cost $799 new, and I got mine on sale for $549 a couple of years ago. I even bought a second one as a spare, I liked it so much. It has been going strong for two years, and does everything I ask. Fast forward two years, and JIP purchases the VAIO brand from Sony, and now puts out a 256 gig version, with a Core i7 processor, and specs that put any high end computer to shame. However, it costs $2,199 and has a battery life of less than two hours. Sorry JIP, I will keep my slow, old VAIO. She gets the job done, and she doesn't liberate me of my money.

Best Android Smartwatch You Can Buy Today. While I prefer the LG Watch Urbane to the Moto 360 and the Huawei entry for Android Wear smartwatches, and I love Android Wear, I must disagree with the premise of this article that the Gear S2 is in third place because of the lack of apps. Wearable computing is not about the apps; it is about the notifications. Running apps on the tiny smartwatch screens is more about "see what I can do" than about life changing functionality. I wear a smartwatch, or two of them, because I can get notified about texts, emails, phone calls, weather updates, and a host of other things without having to pull out and look at a smartphone. I don't need to play games on the watch, or spend time running a lot of apps on it. The Tizen OS does a great job with its primary function, and the Gear S and Gear S2 3G are the only smartwatches that have a usable phone chip. Pick your poison, fellow geeks.

Back To Two SmartWatches

LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE has been cancelled. Well, it looks like, if I want Google Now and Google Voice Control, in addition to a WatchPhone, I am back to wearing a SmartWatch on each wrist. Geeky, I know; but, you gotta do what you gotta do. I love the Gear S2 3G. It is light, and stylish, and brings me all my notifications, along with the flexibility to work on its own as a phone and notification device, even when out of bluetooth range. However, the Watch Urbane from LG is the best Android Wear watch I have owned; and, it gets Google Now notifications, and enables me to use the superior Google voice search capability. I just say "OK Google" and ask any question. Samsung has voice search capability; but, it doesn't approach Google in speed or ease of use. I hope LG gets its LTE act together soon. I was really looking forward to combining the two functions. Although, I still won't pay $500 for the privilege. Verizon, are you listening?

Image Your Drive In Ten Minutes Or Less

Crucial 256GB MX100 2.5" Internal Solid CT256MX100SSD1 B&H. It is important to keep your drive and files backed up regularly. Your data and files are essential, and all computers fail eventually. These days, you should demand SSD drives in your notebooks, tablets, and computers. My tablet has a 128 Gig SSD drive, which holds around 100 gigs of my essential files and programs. I image it every other day. In the old days of mechanical hard drives, and USB 2.0 external mechanical drives, it could take 2 or 3 hours to image the drive. Now, with a Crucial 256 Gig external SATA drive, hooked to a USB 3.0 port on my computer with an adapter cable, I can image my drive in under 10 minutes. Maybe I should start imaging it every day. You can't be too careful out there.

Blogging On A Chromebit With Chrome OS

Okay, I have installed the Chromebit USB stick computer on a spare HDMI port at my desk at the office. I connected to a portable bluetooth mouse and keyboard. The keyboard is one of the new Logitech multi-device keyboards. Dial 1,2 or 3 for control of different computers. Very cool. Logging in to Google was fast and easy; and Chrome OS is fast and familiar. If you use the Chrome browser on your notebook or desktop, you will be synced automatically, and will get to work without missing a beat. I am typing this post on the Chromebit. Here are some photos of the setup. One is the Chrome OS on my office big screen, one is the chromebit stuck to the wall behind the screen, and the third is the mobile mouse and keyboard. All you need is WiFi, and you are working away.
