Appeals court overturns $120 million judgment in Samsung vs Apple case | Android and Me. Long ago, in a Galaxy far, far away, Apple sued Samsung for alleged patent infringement. Then, Apple did it again. I swore, after a while, that I was done posting about it. However, Apple's insistence on litigating dubious patents into oblivion has borne new fruit. In addition to a reduction of the original award to Apple to $548 million dollars (chump change for these monster companies), which is still being appealed, the two patents upheld in favor of Apple at trial (slide to unlock and autocorrect) have now been held invalid on appeal, and Apple has been held liable for infringement on a Samsung patent, with $158 thousand dollars in damages. They likely paid more than that for a day of trial. In any event, Apple will now have to pay Samsung's legal costs, which will be in the millions. I am glad that the only winners here will be lawyers (we all have to make a living). But, can't we all just get along?
