Warning. This video will scare the s*** out of you. It is amazing how much personal information of yours can be obtained just by being clever, and asking. The rest of your information in the digital universe can be had by a targeted attack on your computer, email and so forth. Digital security is impossible; but, the risk to you personally is about the same as lightning striking you. Of course, that is not going to give comfort to the guy or gal who has their life destroyed by hackers.

Kevo Smart Lock - A Bluetooth Electronic Deadbolt from Kwikset. I enjoyed spending some time yesterday with the Senior attorneys in Hillsborough County Bar Association. One of our topics was the Internet of Things, and I discussed my purchase and use of the Ring Video doorbells for home and office. Today I ordered a Kevo door lock from Kwikset, which uses bluetooth to connect to your smartphone, and enables a touch entry. The doorlock knows whether your smartphone is on your body or inside the house or office. These types of conveniences will become more common soon, and they will make our lives easier.

I have limited my speaking engagements in recent years to non profit entities, and to places I can travel to easily. However, the opportunity to speak with other "senior" lawyers is special because many of them were practicing law for many years before the tech revolution. I love the opportunity to get them interested.

Robot Anesthesiologists Lose Their Jobs Because of Humans. Monitoring anesthesia in surgery is one of the most important aspects of every procedure. Could computers do the job better? Apparently, it doesn't matter. Even though the robots programmed to monitor anesthesia in surgery cost 1/10 of humans, the project is being abandoned because it wasn't financially viable. Not enough hospitals bought them. Is this human prejudice? What about robot lawyers? If you were in high stakes litigation, would you trust a robot advocate? Didn't think so. I have written about the fact that robots may be used increasingly to enhance humans in performing their jobs, including lawyers; but, I suspect that human nature and prejudice will doom robots programmed to do jobs that require judgment and experience. It's only human.

What's In Your SmartPhone?

FBI hacks attacker's iPhone, drops Apple suit. The ability of the FBI to break into the terrorist iPhone without forcing Apple to help by creating a backdoor raises as many questions as it answers. First, it highlights the fact that no computing device is unhackable. As secure as these devices are, the need for users to access the data means that anyone with sufficient technical skill can get in. For lawyers, this probably isn't an issue, because, while we are required to keep client secrets, we are only required to exercise "reasonable " care in doing so. Encrypting our devices, and using two factor authentication is certainly reasonable in today's environment. As I have written often, the tension between the need for safety and the right of privacy will continue to be the subject of litigation. Let's hope we can find an acceptable balance.

Google Keep - The Best Note Taking App You're Not Using

7 Reasons You Might Actually Want to Use Google Keep | PCMag.com. I am a member of the GoogleVerse. So, I like Google Apps which sync on all my devices. I have tried many note taking apps; but, have abandoned each one due to complexity. I want simple, minimalist, do one thing, and do it well apps. While legal case management systems do much of what a note app does, and even better, they are complex, and overkill for many solo and small firm lawyers. Of course, if you are a small law practice with active matters that require tracking over the firm, you should look at Amicus, MyCase, RocketMatter, Clio, or one of the other leading systems. If you just need a quick and dirty (and free) ToDo list app that can integrate photos, reminders, and other things, take a look at Keep. I "Keep" it in an active tab all the time.You can dictate to it, set reminders, pull text out of photos, collaborate with others, and more.

Of course, first you would have to find some calm, well adjusted, open minded politicians. Good luck with that.

Beware Other People's "Principles"

Execupundit.com: Principles. Michael Wade highlights some wisdom from Seth Godin. When anyone says to you "I agree in principle", prepare for the reality that they don't agree at all, and likely will try to stifle any action you intend to take. I suppose that such a statement is better than "I think your idea or strategy is crap and I will do everything in my power to thwart you"; but, it is still a prevarication. So, keep to your own "principles", and never trust anyone who makes their principles public knowledge. 

Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE Finally Available On Verizon

Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE Archives | Droid Life. I thought that my AT&T version of the new LG Watch Urbane LTE would have been already delivered. However, now that it is also available on Verizon, I have cancelled the AT&T version. I paid more money; but, it will be here later this week, and I am anxious to see if LTE is worth the cost. I like the Urbane styling better than the Gear S2, and I prefer Android Wear to Tizen; especially, since Android Wear has been adopted as the standard for wearables, and has attracted many more apps. I will review the watch when it is delivered.
