When anyone says to you "I agree in principle", prepare for the reality that they don't agree at all, and likely will try to stifle any action you intend to take. I suppose that such a statement is better than "I think your idea or strategy is crap and I will do everything in my power to thwart you"; but, it is still a prevarication. So, keep to your own "principles", and never trust anyone who makes their principles public knowledge.
