How Google Photos uses machine learning to create customized albums - CSMonitor.com. Regular readers know that I hate the term "Artificial Intelligence". What we are teaching computers to do is really enhanced analysis and decision making by computer software. But, AI has a ring to it, so... A subset of AI is called "machine learning", which is a term for the analysis of images and data by computers and the application of that analysis to other data. In fact, the only photo software I use these days, Google Photos, uses machine learning to analyze, catalogue, and present all of my photos in context. I love the fact that I can go out an shoot to my heart's content, and Google's computers will organize them, and present them to me in an understandable way. Want to create a photo journal of your last trip to DisneyWorld? Google Photos does it automatically. These are the kinds of things AI will do for humans in the future. They will enhance our lives, not control them.
