After Apple and Samsung have litigated each other into the new century, and intellectual property lawyers have made a lot of money in that litigation. However, while Steve Jobs is certainly turning over in his grave, Apple is about to agree to make Samsung the sole supplier of its device screens. It is well known that Samsung makes the thinnest, brightest, best screens on the planet, and now Apple users will know what Samsung customers already know. It's the screen, baby, it's the screen.

Don't be that guy.  Carefully walk over here, and turn in your stick. Yes, that thing protruding from your body like a stiff praying mantis leg. Selfies are so last decade. You need a personal Hover Camera drone. It will follow you around and take photos of your selfish, self centered personage and you won't look ridiculous doing it. Why would anyone use the tiny Pi computer ($35) and a Nintendo DS case, and a tiny keyboard to make a fully functional handheld computer? Because he can. Using the Linux OS (free), $120 worth of parts, and some time and ingenuity, this guy did it. You can even output the video to a full sized monitor if the tiny screen is too much for your old eyes. Very cool. Very geek.

Walmart Pay Launches - Uses QR Codes Not NFC

Walmart Pay launches using QR Codes instead of NFC. While I don't use Android Pay, although I have it installed, and I am a fan of WalMart (I visit the one two blocks from my office all the time), I prefer to pull my debit and credit cards out of my wallet. I don't know why. In any event, I suspect that WalMart will win this battle, and that we will all have two options in our smartphones. Oh well. It's only money. Now, if you give me a discount for using WalMart Pay?

Can't We All Just Get Along?

Google and Microsoft agree to drop complaints to regulators | Android and Me. Apparently, Google and Microsoft have had a meeting of the minds, and have realized that problems between them are better solved by agreement than litigation. While there are still government enforcement actions pending, perhaps the companies figure that they will have enough problems defending those claims, and that further infighting will damage their ability to do so. In any event, it is a good thing that the two behemoth computer software companies are trying to get along. 

Google Testing A New Travel App

Google is sending out invites to test a new travel app | Android and Me. By now, you are completely reliant on Google Maps and other apps when you travel. My favorite destination, DisneyWorld, has an app that really helps in the enjoyment of the parks, from making dinner reservations to choosing rides. Now, Google is teasing a new travel app that no one knows about. You may be lucky enough to get an invitation to test it. Let us know if you do. We are curious.

Manything - Put That Old SmartPhone To Use

Manything | Monitor Anything with Manything. Many of us have an old smartphone lying around; at least, I do. So, when I saw this cool new app that uses the old phone as a video monitoring camera, I had to try it out. I will let you know how it works; but, I am going to install one in the aviary at work, to supplement the one that is in there now. I can't monitor all the birds with the existing camera, and this looks like a great solution to the problem. More later. Now, if I can figure out a way to talk to them when I'm not at the office.
