Why I Am A Solo - I Don't Have To Read A Book On Law Firm Metrics

Legal Practice Management Software. In the "Are you kidding me?" aisle of the legal grocery store today,  I give you a book called "Every Law Firm's Guide To Key Performance Indicators". I love Clio. Great leader in the cloud practice management sphere. Along with RocketMatter and MyCase, these apps are the future of lawyering. But, I really don't care about law firm metrics, whatever that is. I am a solo. My performance indicators are whether there is enough money in the account to pay the mortgage, and the electric bill, and the Internet and phone bill. After that, I have to pay for the parrot food, and for new tech gadgets. I work hard on client matters every day, and don't have law firm meetings. Unless, that is, I am really feeling schizo that day. Then, I have a meeting with myself, and my decisions are always followed. The whole reason for being solo or in a small firm is to avoid having to read about law firm metrics. 

Sometimes Two Factor Authentication Is Too Secure

This is a cautionary tale. Jason Howell, Android geek, used his Google Voice number to authenticate his Google account. Problem is, that Google Voice is on the other side of Google sign in. So, if the Verification code is sent to a Google Voice number instead of a cell phone, you can't get to it for the code. Ouch. Happy to see that even Google experts can be trapped sometimes by the vagaries of tech. Notice that, like the FutureLawyer, Jason is playing with the ASUS Chrome OS Flip that now gets Android apps. ASUS Chrome OS Flip - Android Apps Galore

My new Chrome OS computer was delivered today, and I am having fun installing Android apps. Not all of them are compatible yet; and, the OS is a beta, so it isn't completely stable; but, it works well enough that I am certain that these little computers will be selling like hotcakes. It weighs less than 2 pounds, which is tablet weight, and has a full keyboard for typing. It should be great for traveling, or chairside use at home or at Starbuck's.

How to use Android apps on Chromebook - Tech Insider. When I discovered that switching the ASUS Chromebook Flip to the Developer Channel 53 would enable the Google Play Store and millions of Android apps I knew that I had to try it. So, tomorrow or Thursday, I will have one delivered. I got a deal on Amazon, getting the 4GB of memory version for $249 and I got a $70 discount by getting an Amazon credit card. Total cost was less than $190. I will report my findings; but, a combination of a tiny 2 pound notebook that has Chrome OS plus all the Android apps should be spectacular. Here is a blueprint for doing it yourself in case any of you take the plunge. I predict that tablet computers are in danger of extinction.

Doctor Google Is In

The Google app takes on WebMD with an intelligent symptom search | TechCrunch. Who among us hasn't gone to a site like WebMD and asked about symptoms, hoping for a magic pill? Of course, without a physical exam, most of the answers are so over compensating that you never know whether you have arthritis or some rare form of bone cancer. There are so many different reasons for most symptoms that computer searches are generally just fodder for the hypochondriac in all of us. But, that may be changing, now that Google is applying its world class search engines to the problem. The day may be coming when you can ask Google Search a question, and get a pretty good answer. Like using the Internet as a legal research device, however, it is more likely that you will get better results if a human trained in medicine or law asks the questions. Machines can enhance the diagnostic or legal abilities of doctors and lawyers; but, they can't make a lay person into a doctor or lawyer. At least, not yet.
