Microsoft's free Windows 10 upgrade ends on July 29th. What if they gave out a free OS and nobody wanted it? Well, I waited until buying a new computer with Windows 10 already installed, and it works just fine. However, there is no guarantee you will have a smooth upgrade path from older versions of Windows, even if it is free. In a few days, if you change your mind, it will cost $119 to upgrade. My advice is still to buy a new computer (you know you need one), and you will get the OS preinstalled. If your old computer is running fine with Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, keep it. But, if you really want Windows 10, you only have a few days to download and install the upgrade for free. Pick your poison.
1. I converted my stand-by laptop. Apparently with no problems. All my usual programs seem to work fine: Wordperfect, NitroPro, AVG, Everything GOOGLE, MsgExtract, Grammarly, FTR Gold, Neat scanner direct into NitroPro, Brother wireless printer, several stand-alone backup drives, wireless mouse,
2. I am leaving my day-to-day laptop in W7.
3. I bought a Surface Pro4 for travel, and it comes with 10. I find working with this 10 easier for some reason than the converted laptop. But that may say more about the SP4 than the Dell.
So there you go.
