Proper Notarization - Can Personal Appearance Be Made Via Video?

5 Steps To A Proper Notarization | NNA. The new Online Notary service, Notarize, takes advantage of Virginia's statute permitting webcam video to substitute for the traditional personal appearance requirement of most States. In fact, only Virginia and Montana permit Notaries to notarize signatures this way. Notarize uses Virginia Notaries, who verify identity and do the personal appearances via video call online.

It will be interesting to see if other States follow Virginia and Montana's lead.
