Why Some Lithium-Ion Batteries Explode. Let's see. How about we create an energy source made up of a chemical material that charges up through heat and creating a chemical reaction that, when over heated, can explode. Then, we put the source in our pockets or plug it in to our car. What could go wrong? In case you thought exploding batteries were only a problem with Samsung Galaxy phones, think again. The problem is rare; but, is a risk of all battery technology; especially batteries that are charged with electricity, and given the chance that safety devices in the batteries can fail. Quick. What do you think about when you hear the phrase: "chain reaction" ? I thought so.
