Baseline Computer Security for Lawyers. Here is a good primer on computer security. If you make one New Year's Resolution, please let it be that you will follow FutureLawyer's advice, and do what you can to secure yours and your clients' data. Some security principles are totally within your control. For instance, avoid phishing attacks by not clicking on links in emails. If you get an email with a link, and you want to go to the site, go to your browser and type in the site location. Using a strong password by itself isn't even enough. By all means, use as strong a password, if you can remember it. If not, get a password manager. But, after you do that, sign up for two factor authentication on every website you can. Add the https everywhere extension to your Chrome browser. Encrypt your laptop or notebook computer data. Do the same with your tablets and phones. Do images of your drives on a regular basis. Back up your essential files to several external sources, be they MicroSD cards, or external USB drives. Learn about security, and use it. Just do it.
