Carnival Corp.: Wearable technology to transform cruise experience: Travel Weekly. I love stories like this. All the naysayers who have been saying that wearable computing is a fad, and that the alleged drop in sales of SmartWatches means that consumers are abandoning them ( I challenge the stats they use) must take into account that computers have invaded every part of our lives, and they will become more ubiquitous as time passes. Now, the cruise industry is adopting wearable bands that work like the smartbands at DisneyWorld. Just walk up to the bar and the bands will order your drinks and food for you. Charge them to your room without signing anything, and get you into your room without a key. Brave new world. Check it out at CES 2017, or just go to Carnival's website. If you see me on the cruise ship, you can recognize me by the SmartWatch on my wrist, the Bluetooth headset draped around my neck, the Smartphone in my hand or pocket, and the Ocean Medallion on my other wrist or around my neck. Compute on.
