I'm Giving Up Golf - It's Way Too Dangerous

Stray Bullet Hits Man on Golf Course. I am going to start running rapids in a canoe; or, maybe, kite boarding off of mountains. Golf is way too dangerous for me. As proof, I offer this golfer who got shot in the leg while taking his backswing. I realize my golf is offensive to the observer; but, there is no need for this level of violence. Just ask me to go home. Once I get out of the woods, I will be happy to comply.

Free App of the Week - Android Apps on Google Play. We all have downloaded dozens of apps to our phones and tablets; and, we probably only use a few daily or regularly. However, hope springs eternal, and we are always browsing for the next new app that will change our lives forever. As cheap as they are, it isn't cool to spend two or three dollars on an app that we use once and throw away. And, there are thousands and thousands of apps in the PlayStore, so our chances of finding apps are like finding a needle in a haystack. Google is trying to highlight new apps by giving away one a week. Free is good, and, if it doesn't end up being your favorite, you can delete it and get on about your business. No harm, no foul. Of course, nobody is going to give that hour back to you. So, be choosy anyway.

The computer docking station that I have used to connect all my peripherals at home and the office to my ultralight notebook computer for several years is not made anymore. You can find a used one at Amazon for around $50; but, this docking station is unavailable new, since the maker doesn't sell it anymore. Some people had problems with it, and some complained that the drivers didn't work with Windows 10. As proof that computer gadgetry is often haphazard and finicky, I have had no problems with mine, ever. A docking station means that, with one cable, plugged into a notebook USB 3.0 port, I have an immediate complete office both at home and at the office. Once set up, these things are set it and forget it, and I don't even think about it anymore. While you can't have one of mine, there are plenty of docking stations out there. If you want to be mobile; but, still want your printer, scanner, big screen monitor, wireless mouse, USB 3.0 keyboard, video camera, Smartwatch charging stations, Backup USB drives, and whatever else, connected all the time, get one. It makes life easier.

Every time that illness or misfortune enters my life, I think about the Stoic philosopher, Epictetus, and his teachings. The Stoics believed that suffering was part of life, and should not be mourned or even considered in the daily struggle. Epictetus espoused the Stoic view of the ideal condition for a human being—to be aware of, yet immune to, the bruisings of fortune—to lack all dissatisfaction with anything about the world, to be disappointed by nothing, and to achieve an impersonal point of view. We all tend to express our dissatisfaction with negative turns in our lives; but, as Epictetus showed us, that solves nothing, and should not be a surprise. Be immune to misfortune. Embrace it. It is the human thing to do.
