Smartphone Mobile HotSpot |T-Mobile Support. Many pundits have written about the dangers of open WiFi at airports, restaurants, and hotels. Public WiFi is dangerous because it is easy to grab data sent in the open. Public WiFi is also notoriously unreliable, and sometimes is so slow that it is unusable. What to do? Well, T-Mobile has recently had promotions that permit up to 10 GB a month of WiFi tethering from its phones and OnSync devices, a service that used to cost an additional $25 a month per phone. I recently saved $40 a month by cancelling my WiFi Hotspot, which had a 6 Gig monthly limit, and now use one of my secondary phones as a HotSpot when traveling. The data is secure, and no VPN is necessary. Do you use Public WiFi when you may have an Internet connection in your pocket?
