We spend so much time searching for happiness outside of ourselves. We seek fulfillment by traveling to exotic locations. We strive to obtain nice houses, nice cars, nice belongings; in my case, the newest and most functional gadgets and computers. But, are those efforts successful at making us happy? Probably not. It is the interior joy in the journey that is likely to be the most valuable. I came upon this quote this morning, and thought about the idea that we should probably think about how our actions affect our interior selves more, if we want to be happy:
"We spend our lives working towards an end goal, or trying to follow a grand plan. It's rare to find someone who's working towards changing the way they respond and feel. Yet, isn't this the real impetus behind all achievements? Aren't we all chasing a missing sense of satisfaction, or manufacturing the contentment we crave? Life asks you to question your motives and to examine the reasons that have rallied you to a cause. The journey's worth just as much, if not more than your destination."
