Do the Stoics lack a sense of humor? %u2013 How to Be a Stoic. Stoic practitioners get a bad rap when it comes to having a sense of humor. Being indifferent to the vagaries of fate can be misinterpreted to be a humorless accession to whatever life brings. However, the opposite is true. Someone who finds Stoic philosophy beneficial to getting along in life actually laughs in the face of life's problems and the inevitability of fate and death. As Epictetus famously said ( I am paraphrasing), we all die, get over it. The idea here is to expect death, to expect problems, to expect the worst that can happen, and then to live life to the fullest, with humor, and surrender, and resignation. Isn't that a great way to approach things?
