The Impenetrable Program Transforming How Courts Treat DNA Evidence | WIRED. In the movie, Minority Report, advanced science and technology is used to predict crimes before they happen, so that the police can arrest a suspect before he commits the crime. Far fetched; but, modern technology is now available that can solve crimes using evidence that is invisible to the human eye, and uses computer algorithms that are not able to be tested or examined by anyone but the creator. Is a criminal defendant entitled to know how a tool works; especially, when the tool is used to convict him? The courts are wrestling with the issue, and the competing interests are compelling on both sides of the argument. In the meantime, the risks of misuse of technology have to be measured against the good it can do. Stay tuned.
