The least sexy part of your home network is the humble router. I am assuming, for the sake of this post, that your cable or Internet carrier supplied you with a router, set it up, and plugged it into your computer. It probably shows up on the WiFi enabled computers and devices in your home with long, incomprehensible name that looks like a serial number. This little article will show you how to improve security, and mess with things like the name of your home network and other stuff. You don't have to be tech wizard to do this stuff; but, you really should do it, if only to give you more control over your WiFi security. The one essential thing is to secure your network with a good password. Some security experts believe that easy to remember nonsense phrases are more secure than long strings of letters, numbers and special characters. You be the judge. But, at least, spend some time learning about your home router. You'll be glad you did.
