Full frame DSLR: do you really need one? | TechRadar. In addition to being mind-blowingly expensive, full frame DSLRs and their attendant huge lenses, are heavier than most of us want to carry around. Many Pros and serious amateurs get them because they are told that you need a sensor that is as big as the 35 mm film that we used to use in the film days. APS-C sensors, found in many DSLRs are much smaller; but, now that we have 18 megapixel and up smaller sensors, there isn't a discernible difference in image quality. Go with a light, compact, inexpensive DSLR. You will take many more photos and they will be high quality images. The best photos are the ones you actually take; and, the lighter the load, the more images you will shoot. Remember always. The camera isn't in your hands. It is between your ears.
