Edward Snowden's Haven app uses your phone to detect intruders. I have written before about Signal, from WhisperSystems, which is a free texting app that makes your communications absolutely secure. Every lawyer should be using it to communicate with clients. In fact, there are a few politicians and celebrities who should have used it to protect their communications. But, that is another story. Today, Edward Snowden has developed an app that uses the cameras and sensors of your old smartphones as a security device to track sound and movement, and take videos of your home or office. Just install Haven on an old phone, and put it in the vicinity of the area that you want to monitor and protect. The app can record unexpected sounds, sense changes in ambient light, and know whether it is picked up or disturbed. It can also detect motion and snap photos of intruders. If you leave your computer on and in a particular physical location while you are elsewhere, the app will text you if someone attempts to disturb it. This will make a good Saturday project. Now, go find that old phone you have laying around, and be safe out there.
